Depression

Depression Treatment for Women in Colorado

Depression in women is often more complex than it appears on the surface. When hormonal patterns, thyroid function, and physical health aren't factored into the evaluation, treatment can feel like guesswork:  medications that don't work, diagnoses that don't quite fit, and symptoms that keep coming back. At Colorado Direct Psychiatric Care, depression is evaluated and treated with the full picture in mind.

How Depression Presents in Women

Depression doesn't always look like sadness. For many women it shows up as:

  • Persistent fatigue and low energy
  • Loss of interest in things that used to matter
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Increased irritability or emotional sensitivity
  • Changes in appetite or sleep
  • A sense of numbness or disconnection
  • Depression that worsens premenstrually or during perimenopause

If your depression seems tied to hormonal shifts or hasn't responded well to previous treatment, a more comprehensive evaluation may reveal what's been missed.

The Hormonal Connection

Estrogen and progesterone play a direct role in regulating serotonin, dopamine, and other neurotransmitters that affect mood. This is why many women experience depression that fluctuates with their cycle, worsens during perimenopause, or emerges postpartum. Treating depression without addressing these hormonal influences often produces incomplete results.

At Colorado Direct Psychiatric Care, hormonal patterns are evaluated alongside mood history, prior medication response, and physical health, giving treatment a much stronger foundation.
